Remember when the fashion magazines were our bible and regularly going through those magazines was our weekly ritual. From the latest fashion trends to the easy makeup and hair tips, were all the rage back then. The whole saga of surfing through those magazines to find out which actress picked out which kind of outfit to the Met Gala or to the Cannes film festival was as important as learning the lyrics of Taylor Swift or One Direction’s new song album.

1. The ‘puff culture’
Puff here means a puff made out of your hair. The usual way of making the puff was to take the front section of your hair, comb it down, inflate it in a manner that it looks like a half balloon on your head and secure it with bobby pins or a small claw clip. The craze of this hairstyle was so much that it was the go-to hairstyle of every other teenage girl. Teachers in school used to consider this as a fashion peak for school- goers and girls opting for this hairstyle were called out to ‘deflate’ the puff.

2. The ‘parallel’ jeans
The wide-legged jeans that you know of today, the sharara pants that you know as a fashion statement today, was called the parallel pants back in the days. There was a sense of pride in owing a pair of parallel jeans. If you thought of buying your birthday dress, and it wasn’t a set of parallel jeans with matching top then what was the point of buying a new dress at all.

3. Low-waist jeans
One of the weirdest fashion trends in the early 2010s was the low- waist jeans. It was a normal -looking- jeans which was wore in a manner that made it look like it can fall off any time. It was worn on the hip bone and was supported with the help of a belt. It was mostly prevalent among the boys.

4. The ‘bling’ culture
The type of clothes people wore back in the days were very shiny and blingy. The clothes which were made out of shiny leather material or sequin or shimmer moonlight material and had that extra element of ‘bling.’ There were mini-skirts, midis, tops and even jeans were available in this material. Owning one of these blingy piece of clothing was as if you had the ultimate ticket to being the most fashionable person in the room.

5. The roll- on glitter
One of the highly popular makeup products used in those days was the roll- on glitter sticks. It was used as a present- day highlighter used to highlight the high points of the face. It was a go- to makeup product owned by all the teenage girls and made the makeup look a little more blingy.

6. The ‘Retrica’ and ‘B612’ fever
These camera apps enhanced the quality of the pictures we took. These two apps were the ‘DSLR-rated’ camera of that time. The watermark appearing in the corner of the picture was a flex when one used to post it online. The beauty filters of these apps gave the pictures a hue which further enhanced the pictures.

7. The kajal-y eyes
One of the most popular makeup trends in the early 2000s was putting a generous amount of kajal. The kajal pencils sale was on the rise because every girl used to overline their lower lashes with kajal. The go-to hack to look ‘presentable’ before stepping out was to throw on a parallel jeans, make a puff hairstyle and put a generous amount of kajal.

8. Matching accessories
From matching clips to matching bracelets to earrings and even belts were all what one needed to look their best selves. The craze of everything to be in the same color was to the extent that there were as many clips and belts and bracelet as there were the number of outfits.
